Le premier album solo de Gary Brooker en 1985, « Echoes In The Night », était destiné à tous ces fans qui attendaient depuis huit ans une réunion de PROCOL HARUM.
En plus du chant et du travail au clavier de Gary Brooker, l’album mettait en vedette l’organiste de PROCOL HARUM, MATTHEW FISHER, le parolier KEITH REID et le batteur B.J. WILSON. Ils n’apparaissaient pas sur tous les morceaux, mais lorsqu’ils se retrouvaient, notamment sur le titre éponyme (qui comprenait également ERIC CLAPTON), « Saw The Fire », et surtout sur l’ambitieuse « Ghost Train », PROCOL HARUM était de retour. Même lorsque FISHER et REID ne collaboraient pas, comme sur « Mr. Blue Day », Brooker aspirait à une approche ‘Procol’.
